Squad Selection: How will Luchi Gonzalez handle his lineup against New York?

New, 2 comments

Injuries, now suspensions have been implications on this week’s lineup.

MLS: FC Dallas at Real Salt Lake Chris Nicoll-USA TODAY Sports

This week’s game against the New York Red Bulls will be a massive test for first year manager Luchi Gonzalez. Not only will he be without Paxton Pomykal for another game but he’ll also be without Michael Barrios, who is out on a yellow card accumulation suspension.

Both are big shoes to fill but FC Dallas has the players to make it happen, it just comes down to which ones. Does Dominique Badji return to the lineup as a winger or a striker over Jesus Ferreira? Do we see both Pablo Aranguiz and Santiago Mosquera on the wings? Or will someone like Ryan Hollingshead get pushed up the field in a winger role with rookie John Nelson getting a start?

Lots of questions to be asked of the lineup this weekend as they take on a New York side that is coming off a loss Wednesday night at home to Montreal.

Here is what we know in terms of availability for Saturday’s game (some of the loaned players could end up not being on loan, those are fluid each week):

OUT: Cristian Colman (torn ACL), Francis Atuahene (pectoral muscle), Paxton Pomykal (hamstring)

QUESTIONABLE: Bressan (hamstring)

LOAN: Dante Sealy (North Texas SC), Moises Hernandez (San Antonio FC)

SUSPENDED: Michael Barrios
