Another win for Paxton Pomykal who was a dominant force against Real Salt Lake. Thank you for reading and voting!

Silver Linings

Looking over the commentary from our other fine authors and thinking back to our postgame conversation on Big D After Dark, we've all acknowledged that while this result was a tough one, especially to give up two goals so late, there are lots of positives to take from this result. The circumstances of not having three key players who would have definitely made a difference to seeing some youngsters get crucial minutes in a tough environment - these games might help this team harden for the long, long season ahead and be a bit more prepared for the various scenarios that come up. Dealing with PKs and learning how to lock down games are about mental decisions as much as anything else. And for the most part, FC Dallas and their super young lineup did really well.

These minutes might help Thomas Roberts and Edwin Cerrillo continue to grow and be a bit stronger in future matches when they are needed to contribute.

But the game also revealed some weaknesses. Injuries hurt the lineup and limited Coach Luchi with some options. Imagine Badji or Acosta being available. Imagine having a really capable left winger opposite Barrios. Imagine Mosquera as energy off the bench. Luchi did the best he could with what he had, but we can see how as deep as this roster could potentially be, injuries mess things up. Maybe FC Dallas is still one solid piece away from locking this match down or getting another crucial goal. Maybe even a certain Dutch superstar?

Goalkeeping Should Get Your Vote

In all, I think this team had a decent performance. Ryan Hollingshead, Matt Hedges, and Reto Ziegler all left positive impacts even if they had some mistakes here or there. They are all worthy of consideration for votes this week. Paxton Pomykal struggled a bit, but Philadelphia seemed intent to target him and diminish his impact. Ultimately, I want to recommend Jimmy Maurer for stepping into the starting lineup in a tough situation and doing a pretty darn good job. He actually blocked a frickin’ PK and was let down a bit by his teammates not getting to the rebound first. I think he deserves the Workhorse nod for keeping FC Dallas in it after giving up 18 shots across the match.

What a gift it is to have Jesse as your No. 1 choice and Jimmy as a super solid No. 2. (Plus, if Jesse needs a little more time to think about his team violation, I would be fine with Maurer getting another start this weekend.)

Vote below, and answer this question - what is FC Dallas missing right now? What are your silver linings from the match?
