Neither team was able to produce many chances as final product wasn’t there.
The best action for FC Dallas in the first half came in the 39th minute on a bit of give-and-go between Paxton Pomykal and Bryan Acosta that helped break Reggie Cannon free inside the penalty box. The Dallas Homegrown quickly took a left footed shot that just went by the far post and out of bounds.
A minute later San Jose had their best chance of the first half as Cristian Espinoza broke free inside the penalty box where Jesse Gonzalez punched the ball away to break up the scoring chance.
The second half really never brought any true chances for either side. San Jose had the bulk of the possession in this one as well, creating more chances for corner kicks and crosses that failed to reach someone on the back post.
Instant Reaction: This was easily a weird game at best, and that may be putting it lightly. San Jose established their game a bit better than Dallas. The subs Luchi Gonzalez brought on didn’t really find their way.
Man of the Match: Uh, I suppose if you are going to give it to someone it has to be Jesse Gonzalez for his pair of saves.
What’s next for FC Dallas: It is Texas Derby time as Gonzalez gets his first taste of a rivalry match against the Houston Dynamo.
