Squad Selection: Will Luchi Gonzalez return to the 4-3-3 against San Jose?

After a new look and style in Atlanta last weekend, FC Dallas returns home to battle the Quakes.

MLS: FC Dallas at Atlanta United FC Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Last week’s win in Atlanta brought a new look and formation for FC Dallas under Luchi Gonzalez. The first-year manager used a 3-5-2 type look that helped focus on defending the reigning MLS Golden Boot winner in Josef Martinez (aside from a 97th minute penalty kick, it worked).

Now FC Dallas returns home to battle a team that has been their Achilles heel over the last couple of years in the San Jose Earthquakes. Matias Almeyda’s side has starting to find their groove here in the last few weeks, with wins over Sporting KC and a draw last night in Seattle.

Gonzalez will look to neutralize a team that should be a bit gassed after playing last weekend at before hitting the road for the week in Seattle and then here to Dallas. We should probably expect a return to the 4-3-3 with Bressan picking up a hamstring injury in the win last week. Outside of that, it will be interesting to see if someone like rookie fullback John Nelson can capture a starting spot after putting in a solid 30 minutes in Atlanta last week.

Also, now that Dominque Badji is healthy again, do you bring him back into the lineup on the wings over someone like Santiago Mosquera or Pablo Aranguiz? Or does he come off the bench as a super sub type player?

Here is what we know in terms of availability for Saturday’s game (some of the loaned players could end up not being on loan, those are fluid each week):

OUT: Cristian Colman (torn ACL), Francis Atuahene (pectoral muscle)

QUESTIONABLE: Bressan (hamstring)

LOAN: Dante Sealy (North Texas SC), Moises Hernandez (San Antonio FC)
