Squad Selection: How should FC Dallas’ lineup look against Portland?

FC Dallas returns home following a loss, how does this week’s lineup look?

MLS: FC Dallas at Philadelphia Union Derik Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

Last week didn’t go as planned for Luchi Gonzalez and FC Dallas when they stumbled late against the Philadelphia Union. Now they’ve returned home to host a winless Portland Timbers side in the first home night game of the year.

Gonzalez brought in a few big changes last week in Philadelphia, some partly due to suspensions to Carlos Gruezo, Pablo Aranguiz and Jesse Gonzalez. Those three are expected to be available this weekend as the club returns home. Gonzalez should also have Santiago Mosquera back from an undisclosed illness that kept him out of the last game.

One key player that will likely be out for this weekend is Bryan Acosta. The Honduran picked up an ankle injury late last week in training and the club expects him back next week for the team’s trip to Atlanta.

With all that said, there is a lot of options on the table for Gonzalez going into this week. Does he keep going young with more guys like Thomas Roberts and Edwin Cerrillo getting more minutes? Or will he shift back to a group that has a little more experienced against the team that knocked them out a year ago in the playoffs?

Here is what we know in terms of availability for Saturday’s game (some of the loaned players could end up not being on loan, those are fluid each week):

OUT: Cristian Colman (torn ACL), Francis Atuahene (pectoral muscle), Dominque Badji (hamstring), Bryan Acosta (ankle)

LOAN: Dante Sealy (North Texas SC), Moises Hernandez (San Antonio FC)
