FC Dallas got second half goals from Reto Ziegler and Bryan Acosta to help pick give Luchi Gonzalez his first win as a MLS head coach in a 2-0 win over the LA Galaxy.

LA found a couple good chances in the first 20 minute so of the match as they pressured Dallas to play some poor passes out of the back. In the 17th minute, LA trapped Carlos Gruezo and Jesse Gonzalez in the corner on some quick passing that led to a turnover by Ziegler at the top of the box by Ema Boateng. The Galaxy winger then put in a quick shot on goal that just sailed over the crossbar.

Dallas’ first good chance of the game came in the 30th minute as Pomykal sent a long ball forward to Badji. The veteran forward collected the ball just outside the 18-yard box as he waited for a far post runner to send the ball to. Instead, Badji took on one defender before putting a shot on goal that forced David Bingham to make a diving save.

Dallas began the second half off on good footing as Ziegler scored off a penalty kick in the 53rd minute. Matt Hedges earned the penalty off a foul by Sebastian Lletget at the top of the penalty box.

The lead was doubled in the 61st minute when Pomykal ran down an open ball at the edge of the penalty box and beat two defenders. The Dallas Homegrown then laid it off to Acosta at the top of the penalty box where he one-timed it on the volley past Bingham for his first goal in a Dallas uniform.

Dallas spent the last 20 minutes killing off the game as they were able to bring in Edwin Cerillo for his MLS debut.

Man of the Match: Paxton Pomykal was stellar today in his season debut. His assist to Acosta was a thing of beauty but he was finding the game more and more comfortable as it went along on Saturday.

Instant Reaction: While the second half was much better out of this squad, they had plenty of nervy moments early on, especially out of the back that a better team would have pounced on. This wasn’t a full strength LA squad either and they still found ways to force FCD into bad mistakes in the back.

What’s next for FC Dallas: Gonzalez takes his team on the road for the first time in 2019 as they visit the Columbus Crew next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
