Two Homegrown players for FC Dallas made the box score as Paxton Pomykal lead the way with two goals, while Jesus Ferreria had a goal and two assists in the win.
Dallas got on the board early in this one with a goal from Carlos Gruezo. Ferreria and Michael Barrios helped set up the play as they quickly worked the ball through the midfield and into the penalty box where Barrios was able to tap a quick pass to Gruezo who then slotted home the game’s first goal.
Salt Lake responded in the 31st minute on a goal from Jefferson Savarino. The RSL attacker found some open space in the Dallas defense and was able to put in a low shot that beat Jesse Gonzalez.
FC Dallas responded a minute later with Pomykal’s first of the night. The Homegrown star beat two defenders inside the penalty box before finding an open spot to beat veteran keeper Nick Rimando for his first career goal.
Pomykal doubled his tally on the night in the 64th minute with a shot from the top of the 18 that deflected off Nedum Onuohaand and past Rimando.
RSL cut the lead back to one goal in the 66th minute on a Marcelo Silva header off a corner kick from Albert Rusnak. Silva beat Reggie Cannon to the ball and headed it past Gonzalez to make it 3-2.
That didn’t last long as well as Dallas found a fourth goal on the night in the 69th minute from Ferreira. This time Matt Hedges got involved as he found Barrios towards the end line. The Colombian winger was able to spot Ferreria’s run in the box for the easy goal past Rimando.
Instant Reaction: Take away the man advantage, this game was a lot of fun to watch. I think it may be fair to say that Dallas as found their striker in Ferreria but more importantly, their attack is starting to really figure out exactly how to operate in Luchi Gonzalez’s system.
Man of the match: It is going to have to be a tie between Pomykal and Ferreira. The two Homegrowns lead the way on the night for Dallas and really opened up the possibilities to what is possible with this team.
What’s next for FC Dallas: Gonzalez’s team will remain on the road for another week as they travel to Pennsylvania to battle the Philadelphia Union.
