Squad Selection: How will Luchi Gonzalez handle his lineup against Real Salt Lake?

FC Dallas hits the road with players returning from international duty.

MLS: Colorado Rapids at FC Dallas Andrew Dieb-USA TODAY Sports

The international break is over (well for most of MLS it is, at least) and FC Dallas is back on the road this weekend as they visit Real Salt Lake.

The two sides spent last weekend making headlines for the number of Homegrown players starting and playing in a game, and that could evolve into some more history making this weekend when they meet in Utah.

Luchi Gonzalez will welcome back three players from international duty (Jesse Gonzalez, Bryan Acosta and Carlos Gruezo). The big question will certainly be how quickly the two midfielders of that bunch get integrated back into a lineup that looked really strong a week ago at home against Colorado. One could imagine that Gruezo will return to the lineup in place of Edwin Cerrillo (who had a solid game filling in for him last week). But does Acosta return to the mix or will Gonzalez give some other young faces a go like Pablo Aranguiz or even a Thomas Roberts?

I think the bigger question coming into this weekend may be who he starts up front with Jesus Ferreira, Dominque Badji and Zdenek Ondrasek all eyeing the chance to prove themselves as the starter for this club right now. Last week’s run with Ferreira was a decent one but fans appear to be clamoring for Cobra to be unleashed.

Here is what we know in terms of availability for Saturday’s game (some of the loaned players could end up not being on loan, those are fluid each week):

OUT: Cristian Colman (torn ACL), Francis Atuahene (pectoral muscle), Ema Twumasi (back)

LOAN: Dante Sealy (North Texas SC), Moises Hernandez (San Antonio FC)
