FC Dallas needed a bit of luck but in the end they picked up their second win of the season on Saturday afternoon as they downed the Colorado Rapids 2-1.

FCD got goals from Ryan Hollingshead and Michael Barrios in the win.

Five minutes into the match FC Dallas had two solid chances on goal by Dominque Badji. The former Rapids forward got on the end of a corner kick that went through traffic in the penalty box only to hit the post. Moments later on a counter attack, Badji headed a ball down from Paxton Pomykal that hit the crossbar.

Colorado was able to slow the game down a bit and by the 21st minute, they had their best chance of the first half on a counter attack Kei Kamara picked up a loose ball at midfield and drove it down into the penalty box where he then laid it off to Andre Shinyashiki. The Brazilian attacker then fired off a shot that Jesse Gonzalez was able to punch out for safety.

Dallas finally found a breakthrough in the 35th minute as Barrios put them on the board for the first time in the game. Reggie Cannon drove down the right side of the pitch into the penalty box where he then found Jesus Ferreira at the top of the box, the young Homegrown then caught a wide open Barrios who made one move by a defender before firing a shot that beat Tim Howard at the near post.

Colorado tied the game up in the 71st minute thanks to some help from video review. Kamara hit a shot that slammed off the crossbar and went straight down to the feet of Tommy Smith who got just enough on the ball to beat Gonzalez.

After a pair of MLS debuts by Zdenek Ondrasek and Thomas Roberts, FC Dallas got some spark back into the attack that led to a goal by Hollingshead in the 82nd minute. The two subs linked up with one another at the top of the penalty box to help draw in the Rapids’ defense enough to allow Hollingshead to pick up a deflected pass and score the game winner.

Instant reaction: The attack had a little more juice in it today from the start with Badji on the wing and Ferreira starting up top. Edwin Cerrillo certainly had his moments in the midfield but he showed well in his first start. Roberts showed well off the bench.

Man of the Match: Hard to pick one but Barrios had a solid match, Pomykal once again was very impactful in the attack. But at the end of it, both Matt Hedges and Reggie Cannon stood out in a big way. Cannon was big in the attack at times while Hedges looked strong in the defense.

What’s next for FC Dallas: Luchi Gonzalez takes his team back out on the road again as they take on Real Salt Lake next Saturday evening.
