Squad Selection: What will FC Dallas’ midfield look like against Colorado?

New, 6 comments

FC Dallas is back at home against some familiar faces.

Daniel McCullough

We’ve put last week’s loss behind us here as FC Dallas gets ready to battle an old friend in Kellyn Acosta and the Colorado Rapids this week.

This week Luchi Gonzalez will have to figure out who is in his midfield thanks to a pair of international call ups. We assume Paxton Pomykal will continue to get the start after two solid games in a row for the club, but who joins him in the middle will be intriguing. My money right now is on another Homegrown player in Edwin Cerrillo, who has looked impressive in recent weeks, with Brandon Servania as another option. Pablo Aranguiz or Thomas Roberts could be options as well.

We’ve also learned that Reggie Cannon is back from his injury, which could open up some competition again at the left back spot between Ryan Hollingshead and Marquinhos Pedroso. Maybe John Nelson gets his first start? Lots of options there.

Lastly, I do wonder if it is time for Gonzalez to take a look at the striker position and see what someone other than Dominque Badji can do for a game. Maybe it is time to full unleash Jesus Ferreira? Or give Zdenek Ondrasek a go for a change (I doubt this one more than Jesus at this point).

Here is what we know in terms of availability for Saturday’s game (some of the loaned players could end up not being on loan, those are fluid each week):

INTERNATIONAL DUTY: Bryan Acosta (Honduras), Jesse Gonzalez (United States), Carlos Gruezo (Ecuador)

OUT: Cristian Colman (torn ACL), Francis Atauhene (pectoral muscle), Jacori Hayes (hamstring)

LOAN: Dante Sealy (North Texas SC), Moises Hernandez (San Antonio FC)
