Gaston Sauro put the Crew on top early thanks to a goal off a corner kick 10 minutes into the match. Sauro headed in a ball from Pedro Santos at the near post, beating a couple Dallas defenders.
The Crew nearly doubled their lead in the 23rd minute after Jesse Gonzalez stopped a shot from outside of the 18-yard box by Robinho that Gyasi Zardes quickly pounced on the rebound but the United Stated national team forward sent his shot well over the crossbar.
Dallas got their best chance of the game in the early stages of the second half when Paxton Pomykal helped set up Michael Barrios on the right side of the penalty box. Barrios got in behind a defender and then put a shot on goal that Zach Steffan was able to block out to keep the Crew on top.
Man of the Match: There wasn’t much going forward into the attack on this day but Paxton Pomykal continues to show that he belongs as a starter with this team. He helped create a couple decent chances in the second half and also looked good at times on defense. Ryan Hollingshead also deserves a honorable mention, not just for his mustache, but for the solid play he brought on the afternoon.
Instant Reaction: Once again we saw some issues with the defense and the amount of passing in the back that led to some trouble. Columbus couldn’t convert on some turnovers. The attack lacked a lot of fire going forward in the first half but did look better at times in the second half.
What’s next for FC Dallas: The guys return home next weekend as they deal with another conference rival in the Colorado Rapids.
