Jesus Ferreira earns US citizenship

Though he’s represented the US on a youth level, he hasn’t closed the door on representing Colombia.

Fresh off a brand-new contract with FC Dallas, Homegrown forward Jesus Ferreira was able to scratch another item off his to-do list for the offseason.

Ferreira earned his US citizenship today, making him eligible to represent the U.S. internationally, in addition to his native Colombia.

The 18-year old has been involved in U.S. National Team camps at three different age groups including the U-23s earlier this year. But, because of his lack of citizenship, he was never been able to represent the country in actual matches. That should certainly change in 2020 as the US look to qualify for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and will be going through qualifying matches.

Ferreira will eventually have to pick between the US and Colombia even though he hasn’t received a call-up from the South American side just yet.

What do you make of Ferreira’s offseason so far? Happy to see him become a US citizen?
