Yesterday we revealed our top U-23 player(s) for FC Dallas and today we’re continuing on in the award season with a look at who we thought was the club’s best defender in 2019.
After all 12 votes were in from our staff, the runaway winner in this category was Ryan Hollingshead with seven total votes, with Matt Hedges coming in second with four of his own and Reggie Cannon picking up the last vote.
Here are some of the comments on why the majority of our staff went with Hollingshead:
“Best offensive performance from an FCD defender. I believe since ever.” - Jason Poon
“His offense was better than his defense, but that was a major plus in an offensively-down year for FCD.” - Scott Hiney
“Ryan was the player you could count on for similar effort week in and week out. His offense certainly helped but his tidy approach helped Dallas immensely this season.” - Mohammah Bushnaq
“All other defenders had a difficult time adjusting to Luchi’s system but Hollingshead excelled.” - Jack Rouse
