And they did just that with a massive six goal outburst to down their rivals and secure the 7th seed in the Western Conference.
Dallas had two first half goals that saw Zdenek Ondrasek score first on a long ball from Bryan Acosta over the Sporting defense in the tenth minute. The lead doubled just minutes later when Matt Hedges found himself open at the back post on a cross from Santiago Mosquera.
Mosquera added to the Dallas lead in the second half on a goal that was deflected of Jaylin Lindsey in the 51st minute. Barrios added a goal three minutes later as he found space behind the Sporting defense at the back post.
Ondrasek and Ferreira traded goals and the club’s Golden Boot lead with more goals to bring the tally up to six on the day. Ferreira ended up scoring his eighth of the season to snag the club’s top scorer in 2019.
Instant reaction: So many goals. This team really does enjoy playing at home here. It is a shame they won’t get another game in the playoffs but at least they have clinched a spot here. They’re going to get that experience on the road and against a team that they could do well against.
Man of the match: It is hard to decide between Cobra, Mosquera, Barrios but I will point out that Acosta was huge in this game in helping set up a lot of those goals today.
What’s next for FC Dallas: The club will get a few days off as the October international break hits the calendar before regrouping for the playoffs as they will travel to Seattle on either October 19 or 20.
