All the facts from a wild playoff game.

MLS: MLS Cup Playoffs-Round One-FC Dallas at Seattle Sounders FC Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

FC Dallas saw their season come to an end in dramatic fashion on Saturday as they lost 4-3 in extra time to the Seattle Sounders.

FC Dallas head coach Luchi Gonzalez

On his message to the team after the match… These are winners. These are winners and the result didn’t bounce our way. In terms of the way they live, their human qualities, their fight – they’re winners. I’m so proud and humbled to work with them and the staff. I don’t need to comment on the decisions going this way or that way. Credit to Seattle. Congrats to them. They have a good team, good players and a great environment. I’m proud of our boys, our family and our fans supporting us in the ups and the downs. We made a dog fight out of this. I also liked our fútbol. I thought we played, we expressed ourselves, we lived. We’re going to hurt in the short term, but in the long term I see growth and I see amazing potential in our human beings, in our locker room and I’m looking forward to the future of working with this group and the staff.

On how valuable this experience is for his young team…“You need to suffer and need to have pain in your life to reaffirm that there’s a lot of work to do. The future is about fighting and getting up and trying again. This hurts, but I know we’re going to bounce back in the right way and work and keep building on our ideas. I think we’ve yet to show our potential. Let’s keep growing and I don’t think it’s a matter of if we can earn a (MLS) Cup for our club, it’s a matter of when. I’m looking forward to the next step with this group.

On how the goal at the end of the first half changed the momentum…It’s hard to be down 2-0 in this type of environment where they could’ve pushed and maybe got a third goal, but I still liked the ideas our boys showed before we were even down one or 2-0. We had faith and belief that we were going to score. Yes, that was an important goal before the half to just reaffirm that ‘Hey, we’re playing a good game here. We’re competing well and let’s take it up a notch. Let’s actually play the second half the way we finished the first half.’ And I thought we executed that.

On if he sensed if Seattle was getting tired in the second half…“I’ll be honest, the focus was just on our boys and how we had to keep pushing. Seattle has a lot of personnel in that locker room. They’re well coached and have won the MLS before so they’re going to draw something to get back and fight. The focus was on our group to push. I would’ve liked to actually push and score before the overtime. I think our boys showed that – to go for it and to push and I have to be proud of that.”

FC Dallas defender Reggie Cannon

On how his goal settled the team and changed the feel in the game… I think it breathed life into the team. I think the team was looking at the score, we were getting discouraged. It was tough because in those moments it is so easy to give up. You know working on myself mentally behind the scenes as soon as those two goals happened. I kind of smiled a little bit. I met it with a challenge. I was excited. Because, when things get tough like that you can’t give up then because that is just when the tides turn. That is exactly what happened. Two times behind and we come back both times and unfortunately it just didn’t bounce our way, we got unlucky, but that is the game. I couldn’t be prouder of this band of brothers right here. They fought their heart out and I couldn’t be prouder.”

On playing here in Seattle…Warriors. We don’t care about the environment. We don’t care. 30,000 fans. Whatever. It doesn’t matter to us, we are going to play our football. That showed today because this team of capable of so much and you saw a little bit of that today. There was no fear from us there was no hesitation. We just went out there and played football and had each other’s back and unfortunately it just didn’t bounce our way. I’m really proud of the way Luchi stepped into the coaching position this year. He has really pushed this team to be the best that it could be. I’m still disappointed. Seattle is a good team and I wish them the best.

On your thoughts on lessons moving into next season…Youngest MLS roster. I mean. That is three words that is just kind of make you wonder how a team like that got this far. A lack of experience. A lack of veteran leadership. It is something that these guys have in them. In a couple of years it is going to show. This team is capable of winning so much. Players like Paxton, Brandon Servania, Jesus Ferreira. Getting those minutes and showing what they are truly capable of. That is Football to me. That is why I couldn’t be prouder of this group. Regardless of all the percentages, whatever you want to call it. This team fought with every ounce of there being.

FC Dallas midfielder Bryan Acosta

On the two comebacks for FC Dallas…We were able to even the score twice. It was something wonderful for us. We had that happen before in Montreal. I think that we had the capacity of winning the match, but unfortunately this is soccer. Seattle ended up getting the fourth goal with the rebound. In soccer, things will happen, and you have to turn the page and look to the future.

Thoughts on his goal… It was a play where I decided to go in the box. I felt confident I would have an opportunity to catch a rebounded ball or fight the ball into the net. I was able to get the goal in the second half, but I would change it for the overall team win.

On looking for the winning goal before going into extra time…We were clear on that. When we tied the game, we knew we still had so much to do that I didn’t even know what to do. I think that with the tie, we would have momentum to get the fourth, but unfortunately we didn’t get that goal, and like I said, we have to turn the page and look ahead.

On what the team learned from this match…I think we had a great match. We were down 2-0. We were able to react. We lost the tie and were able to tie again. I think we learned that when we want it, we can really show results. Next year, FC Dallas will be a difficult challenge for any rival.
