Former FC Dallas player and academy coach Peter Luccin, former academy coach Mikey Vargas and current goalkeeping coach Drew Keeshan have been named to Luchi Gonzalez’ staff for the 2019 season, rounding out his selections.
Luccin has been regarded as a rising star in the coaching ranks while also boasting a professional resume that features stints with Paris Saint-Germain, Marseille and Atlético Madrid before finishing his career with FC Dallas in 2013-14. He’s been with the FC Dallas academy since that time, working with several squads, including the U-12s, his son Marlon’s team.
Varas joined the FC Dallas Academy coaching ranks in 2017 as the U-16 coach. Before coming to Frisco, he coached the U-14 team at Sacramento Republic FC where he was named the West Conference’s U-14 Coach of the Year by the USSDA.
Keeshan’s inclusion in Gonzalez’ staff will mark his 12th year as FCD’s goalkeeping coach. The Ireland native was hired by then-coach Steve Morrow in 2008 and Luchi will be the fourth coach he’s worked under during his time with the club.
With these appointments, as well as yesterday’s player signing, Luchi Gonzalez is beginning to find his feet as the new head coach as the team looks ahead to preseason action, which is now just a month away.
