We’ve been keeping tabs on the transfer of Bryan Acosta to FC Dallas for some time now, and it was just a matter of time. So it’s nice to see the deal sealed and done before the MLS SuperDraft.
Bryan Acosta is a Honduran international, having plied his trade in the Spanish second-division Tenerife. Acosta is signed as a Designated Player, which puts FCD at four (Cristian Colman, Santiago Mosquera and Carlos Gruezo). That probably means someone is on their way out or being paid down with TAM, or some new league mechanism is about to be dropped and we just haven’t caught wind of it yet.
The transfer fee has been disputed back and forth with claims saying this was in the $3.2 million range, which would put Acosta as the most expensive transfer fee FCD has paid. Others are saying $1.5 million. Either way, this is still a hefty investment from the club on a midfielder.
Acosta has played 33 times for the Honduran National Team, and was part of Honduras’ 2018 World Cup qualifying team that fell just short in their playoff against Australia.
The question is whether FCD will give Acosta the #23 so fans who purchased Kellyn’s jersey can re-use them again.
