The start of August didn’t go quite like FC Dallas would have wanted it to. They lost their first home match in nearly a year in a 3-1 result to the San Jose Earthquakes.

San Jose got early goals in each half to help as they picked up their third win of the 2018 season.

San Jose pressed early and forced Dallas into some bad mistakes through the midfield. In the 19th minute the Quakes made Dallas pay with a poor mistake by Jesse Gonzalez as the Homegrown keeper came off his line when Vako came down the left side of the pitch. Vako dribbled around Gonzalez and then beat Matt Hedges to score the game’s first goal.

Dallas didn’t give San Jose time to enjoy their lead as Lamah scored his eighth of the season. Reggie Cannon picked up a turnover in the 23rd minute and then dribbled through two San Jose defenders before dishing it wide to Michael Barrios. The Colombian winger immediately played a one-time cross to the far post where Lamah was there to hammer it into the back of the net.

San Jose came out in the second half with more energy and it paid off in the 47th minute on a goal from Jahmir Hyka. Aníbal Godoy slipped a ball in behind the Dallas defense where Hyka was able to get just enough on it to beat Gonzalez.

Dallas had several chances to tie the game up as Maxi Urruti hit the post once and Lamah had a header that just went over the bar.

Vako got his second of the night in the 87th minute as he beat his defender to the back post on a cross from Chris Wondolowski.

It was over when - San Jose made it 3-1, but it really may have been over much sooner than that when chance after chance were wasted by FC Dallas.

Key moment - Quite possibly the minute Reggie Cannon picked up an injury. Dallas was pressing well thanks to some runs by him on the right side.

Up next for FC Dallas - They’re back on the road next weekend as they take on the Seattle Sounders for the second time this season.
