Workhorse of the Week vs San Jose and Seattle

Ugh. I go on vacation, and FC Dallas comes away with two straight losses. Is it panic time? Cast your vote for the Workhorse of the Week.

Michael Barrios somehow won the Workhorse with his hat trick against Sporting Kansas City, even though Matt Hedges was probably more deserving of the award since goal scorers already get enough credit.

But after that SKC game, remember that I wrote this:

And even though we should ask a few [questions], it’s time to sit back and enjoy this team, win or lose. The rest of this season is going to be a sprint, and FC Dallas are in a great position to get back to the playoffs and do some damage. What a great time to be an FC Dallas fan!

Two Weeks Later...

Are we watching the same team?

My travels over the past two weeks took me to the West Coast, and the schedule and flight patterns made it impossible to watch either of FC Dallas’ games. Their home loss to San Jose was as disappointing and predictable as they come. It smelled like a trap game for a team that was supposedly feeling confident and showing their class. Instead, they got undone pretty easily by some goalkeeping errors.

The away loss to Seattle was also predictable. It’s hard to win up there in the Northwest, though, so a draw was a best case scenario. I’m relieved to see that the team did show up to play and compete though. That’s a good sign, and Dominique Badji made an excellent debut, getting his first goal in an FC Dallas uniform. Those debuts could be important in later games as this team tries to get back on track.

I’m not going to panic however. This is still a good team, but two straight losses is an invitation to see what they are made of and if there is a second or third gear for this squad. The new faces are going to take time. The good news is that they look very promising. I’m not going to panic. Are you?
