Workhorse of the Week vs. Minnesota United

FC Dallas went to Minnesota and somehow came away with three points. Who was your Workhorse of the Week?

MLS: FC Dallas at Minnesota United FC Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Congratulations to No One for garnering most votes last week in the midst of a terrible performance against the Red Bulls. Let’s move on, because there is nothing else to add to that kerfuffle.

FC Dallas Stole or Earned Three Points?

The FCD squad probably looked forward to facing Minnesota United in hopes of turning their losing run into something positive. Minnesota has not looked good lately, and FCD needed a pick me up with rumors of change swirling around the team. And while they came away with three points in a 1-0 win in the upper midwest, we definitely saw the team struggle a bit over the full 90 minutes.

On the positive side, a win is a win is a win. FC Dallas feels more confident and hopeful in coming matches this week. Paxton Pomykal also got more minutes and was fouled a ton, but hey, it’s small steps. Overall, homegrown players getting action was a good thing to see, positive moment for this franchise which for years has promoted its academy but not always given the youngsters minutes.

On the negative side, Minnesota played pretty well offensively and had FC Dallas on their back foot time and time again. Kris Reaves was a valiant presence at center back, but it wasn’t his best night or any of our defender’s hype video material. They did enough though - and Minnesota did the rest, missing clear chance after clear chance. Yes, FC Dallas was fortunate to come away with three points, but they did - and that’s all that matters.

Here are a few lingering questions/takes:

  • Play the kids is finally in full swing. Even if we had lost, getting youngsters like Reaves and Pomykal real minutes to begin to build on their development is a win. Keep it coming, Pareja.
  • Santiago Mosquera is good. He may be our short term answer to Mauro’s leaving.
  • Why doesn’t FC Dallas have a Pride night? Who do they think come to their games - Republican lobbyists or Southern Baptist preachers?
  • This defense needs some work, but hopefully reinforcements are coming soon.

Vote below. I recommend Roland Lamah. He got a goal, and it was just typical of the guy - hard working, overlooked, but definitely a star for this team.
