The win keeps FC Dallas atop the Western Conference standings with 42 points as Dallas got their first win in Kansas City in nearly seven years.
Barrios had the hat trick on the night thanks to two quick counter attack goals. The first came midway through the first half as Barrios beat KC defender Ike Opara for a ball in the Kansas City defensive end. Barrios then chipped keeper Tim Melia.
Kansas City leveled the game right after halftime thanks to Gerso Fernandes. The KC forward found space between newcomer Marquinhos Pedroso and Victor Ulloa before curling a shot from the edge of the box into the back of the net.
In the 62nd minute, Roland Lamar played Barrios through on the left side of the pitch. Barrios sped down the flank to pick up the loose ball. As Melia came off his line to cut off Barrios, the Colombian slipped a shot between Melia’s legs to score his second of the night.
Barrios then found his third of the night in the 74th minute as Maxi Urruti attempted a shot in the penalty box that rebounded and found its way to Barrios who hammered home his first career hat trick.
Kansas City pulled one back in the dying minutes of stoppage time as Daniel Salloi connected on a ball inside the six-yard box to beat Jesse Gonzalez.
It was over when - This one never truly felt in doubt after Barrios found his brace, and even more so when he got his hat trick.
Key Stat - This is Dallas’ fifth road win of the season. A number that is quickly growing here in the late stages of the season.
