Rankings Recap: No big changes for FC Dallas following in over Chicago

New, comments

A win that was never really in doubt keeps FCD near the top.

MLS: Chicago Fire at FC Dallas Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

FC Dallas picked up the Brimstone Cup over the weekend in a 3-1 win over the Chicago Fire. The latest pollsters took note of the easy win against a tired Chicago side that was not playing their key guys due to an Open Cup match tonight. Nevertheless, FC Dallas continues to inch their way near the top. (This week: 6, Last Week: 7)

Comment: Dallas have to be pleased that Kellyn Acosta was back on the scoresheet, and Carlos Gruezo chipped in with another one this season as well. They still feel like an enigma, but if they can get goals from midfield and defense, they’re probably still in good shape to contend at the end of the season.

Comment: The top team in the West stayed the top team in the West by taking advantage of a poor Chicago defense and a second-half red card in a 3-0 win. The result was never really in doubt for Oscar Pareja’s team.

Soccer America (This week: 2, Last week: 2)

Comment: It’s been a rocky season for Kellyn Acosta, but five minutes after replacing goalscorer Carlos Gruezo he drilled the winning goal from distance. Brandt Bronico iced the victory with his first MLS goal in the final minutes.
