FC Dallas vs LAFC: Highlights, stats and quote sheet

FC Dallas picked up their third straight win on Saturday.

The points keep piling up here for FC Dallas as they downed LAFC on Saturday 2-1.

FC Dallas Head Coach Oscar Pareja

On the heat…

As much as you think that you are used to it and you’re saying that it is going to be an advantage for you… You get out on to the field and it is heavy. It is not easy for our players either, especially after a short peroid of recovery for some.

Thoughts on the match…

We played well. There was a time in the first half that it took us time to adjust to their model. They came out with a lot of people in the middle. Lee [Nyguen] coming from that false forward position and occupying that space hurt us. We tried to match that with a variation and it did not work. When we moved Mauro [Diaz] to the left as a false winger and moved Roland Lamah into the middle, I think we settled then. Man to man we were better on the field. We created chances, which is something that I need to mention. The number of chances we created was very high in spite of whether we had more of the ball or not, for me, when you create that many options, it shows that you dominated the game.

On bringing in Victor Ulloa and Jacori Hayes to preserve the 2-1 lead…

They came out sharp. They understand positioning and what the game needed at the moment. Victor and Jacori gave us some extra muscles in there, freshness, and we could keep them up, higher in the field. LAFC was making us drop too much. We sensed at that point that any action around the box was going to be dangerous. The intention was to bring Victor and Jacori to push the team higher and get Carlos Gruezo out of the central position… let him psuh, which is his nature. Let Victor and Jacori sit in the middle and push the team higher so we can pressure them. It worked well.

On Reggie Cannon…

The national team in America has a young player that is asking for an opportunity. I am pleased to see him grow that fast. He shows a lot of maturity. I’m very pleased to see that this country has a right back that can take off.

On the team getting goals from different players…

Any way to score is good. Any player that scores is good for the coach. When you have variations on the goal scorers, it is better. You feel that the goal can come from anywhere. Good for Reto [Ziegler]. He is growing in his leadership too.

On heading to San Antonio for a U.S. Open Cup match on Wednesday…

An important game… It will not be easy. We need to turn the page quick. Tomorrow, we need to come regen but prepare for a game also. We have some fresh players but we also have some that need to be part of that game. You know how the U.S. Open Cup is… you think the first game will be easy and it is not. We’ll take the responsibility.

FC Dallas midfielder Carlos Gruezo

On his game and his time at FC Dallas…

I believe I am improving much more, this institution is good. We are growing, not only the team but personally as well. We are getting more experience. We want to keep going like this, so we can try and win a title. We are focused to get that title. I am determined to return to the national team [Ecuador]. I am really happy here, honestly. Because of my ability, I thank God that my wife and daughters are here with me and we’re fine. They like this country a lot. The education they can receive here is good.

On playing different positions to help the team win…

We are always here to comply and do what the boss wants us to do to help the team. If he requires us to play in a different position, then I am here to do as I’m told and try and do better every time whether if it’s a training session or a game.

FC Dallas midfielder Kellyn Acosta

It was a difficult game for us but I thought we managed it well. The first 15 minutes, we were trying to figure it out. We kind of switched formations and we managed the game well... This week, six points, you can’t complain about that.

On the variations Oscar Pareja has introduced this season…

They [opponents] don’t know what to expect. Whatever personnel are on the field, I mean, we can play 4-2-3-1, 4-4-2, you name it… Five at the back, three at the back, having that flexibility is tough to play against because you never know who’s going to be on the field and how we are going to play. That flexibility is definitely great for us and moving forward we can win in any of those systems.

FC Dallas defender Ryan Hollingshead

Back-to-back-to-back wins is huge for us. We’re feeling good about it… We have the [U.S. Open Cup] on Wednesday so that’ll be brutal too but that’s different—that’s a different kind of monster—but we’ll be ready for it.
