For the second time in a month, the two sides squared off where Dallas took a three goal lead before giving up two late goals and a red card to the Galaxy.
FC Dallas picked up two first half goals again in this one as Ryan Hollingshead, who was making his first start of the season scored in the 33rd minute. Hollingshead found himself on the end of a solid passing build up by the team in the attacking third. Victor Ulloa, Kellyn Acosta and Mauro Diaz all found time on the ball to help free Hollingshead in the box where he was able to beat David Bingham.
The second goal came moments later in the 40th minute as Diaz helped create another chance on goal. He found Hollingshead on the left flank, who then crossed the ball into the box where Cristian Colman was there to head it home for his second of the season.
FC Dallas took a three goal lead just after the hour mark in the 66th minute as Carlos Gruezo found his first goal of the regular season. Acosta had an attempt on goal that was batted away but Gruezo was there to tap it in for the easy goal.
LA was able to pull two goals back, both by Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The first came in the 69th minute, the second came in the last minute of stoppage time as the Galaxy had a man advantage thanks to a Colman red card in the 80th minute.
It was over when - The final whistle blew on LA’s comeback attempt.
Turning point - You could point to the three goal lead or easily the red card that allowed LA back into the game.
One big positive for FCD - The goals are starting to come from all over the field. As long as Diaz is leading the charge, the attack seems to find a way, no matter what look or formation Oscar Pareja uses.
What’s next - FC Dallas returns home for another home match this weekend as they host Los Angeles FC on Saturday.
