Workhorse of the Week vs. Toronto FC

FC Dallas marched into Canada and took the points home. Who was your top player from FCD’s big away win at BMO Field?

Congratulations to Reggie Cannon for another big Workhorse of the Week nod for his performance against Vancouver.

Away Points Are Huge

FC Dallas answered a disappointing collapse at home against Vancouver with a gutsy, gritty away win against last year’s best team in the league. This was a fun game to watch, even if I expected FC Dallas to give up at least one goal. The difference maker though was one Jesse Gonzalez, getting the nod in goal after Jimmy Maurer’s mistake prone game the week before. Jesse was absolutely incredible.

The performance means Jesse probably continues to get some starts, and it lights a fire in Jimmy Maurer to continue to push the future USMNT regular to his limits. Jimmy will get some more starts over the course of the season, but Jesse once again has shown why he has incredible potential and talent. He was a joy to watch in this one.

Beyond Jesse, you can also point to excellent performances from Santiago Mosquera, Jacori Hayes, and the whole back line. It wasn’t a perfect game, but the team did enough to claw those three points into their travel luggage and bring back to Frisco. The only bad performance on the night was Michael Barrios, who really should have had a goal or two. Tough stuff - but maybe his head is not in the right place.

All in all, FC Dallas right now seems to at least be able to answer a disappointing result with something positive. That bodes well for the kind of team this is. Oscar Pareja is also keeping us guessing with the lineup. That will challenge opponents in their preparation. How do they prepare and adjust if Mauro starts? How do they prepare and adjust if the three-headed midfield or two strikers start?
