A new month is here for FC Dallas as we roll into what could be a very important set of games on this early portion of the season.
Los Angeles FC - away - Saturday, May 5 (3:00 pm)
The first one is a big one away this weekend at the newly minted Banc of California Stadium. LAFC also just snagged Lee Nguyen from New England, making the story lines for this one even more interesting (can’t forget our friend Walker Zimmerman too). So far the expansion side has been a bit up and down. They’ve proven to be able to score on anyone but they also know how to give up a few goals as well.
LA Galaxy - home - Saturday, May 12 (2:30 pm)
The Frisco debut for Zlatan Ibrahimovic comes in the form of an afternoon game that will be sold out. We know this Galaxy team can be dangerous in the attack but like their new neighbors, they tend to still be weak in the defense.
Vancouver Whitecaps - home - Saturday, May 19 (3:00 pm)
The second home game comes against a very intriguing Vancouver side. The Caps are another team that are right now trying to sort things out defensively as they are second in the league in goals given up with 17. I would anticipate another scrappy game with them as it always seems to come down to a card or two against them.
Toronto FC - away - Friday, May 25 (7:00 pm)
The end of the month will not come easy with another pair of road games, first being against the defending MLS Cup and Supporter Shield winners. TFC may still be sorting things out from their CCL hangover but there is still too much talent on this team to go around to not be in a better place by the end of the month.
LA Galaxy - away - Wednesday, May 30 (9:30 pm)
Lastly, is a midweek match for FCD at the end of the month as they head back to LA. After last year’s schedule of playing the Galaxy at the start of the season and at the very end, it will be interesting getting twice in the same month. If you are curious about what comes up first in June following this midweek game, it is a home date with LAFC.
So this month is going to be tough to say the least. Not only are the three road trips tough ones, the home matches aren’t going to be easy either as they are important conference matchups. So far Dallas has done well at picking up points in all but one game, so if that trend can continue, we could see them get six or eight points from this month.
I think at the end six-to-eight points seems about right. You have to win those two home games and even that road game against the Galaxy seems doable for points. LAFC this weekend is also potentially there for points as that squad could be coming off an emotional high of opening their new stadium.
