Workhorse of the Week vs Philadelphia Union

A solid 2-0 win at home. Who was your top player this week?

Noah Riffe

Hey, BigD readers, you love you some Jacori Hayes who got another Workhorse win last week for his goal scoring, game winning role at New England.

2-0 Home Win

I’ll take it any day of the week. While the first half was a bit of a frustration with Mosquera and Colman getting on some juicy chances, I’ll take the second half surge. This team needed a nice pick me up at home to build confidence. Pareja is finally showing that he isn’t interested in banging his head on the wall, running out the same set of players and hoping for a change of results. Shake it up. Try something else.

I was really pleased that it looked freeing for Mauro Diaz to come into a game and bring a change of pace rather than have everything center around him for 60 minutes. Philadelphia was already on the back foot, so all Mauro had to do was come in and further frustrate them. If soccer is about game states, being able to bring in a wizard on the ball when teams are worn down is an intriguing tactical plan. Will Pareja do it again? We’ll see.

Nomination Time

I’ll keep it simple:

Jimmy Maurer is our No. 1 goalkeeper. Once again, he showed that he is a hugely underrated signing and may end up being in the running for an award or two if he keeps it up. Of course, it’s a long season, so Jesse is going to earn his chances too. But I say vote for Jimmy this week. I mean, just look at this:

Otherwise, take your pick. Reggie Cannon had his best game for FC Dallas yet. Our backline was good enough, despite a couple of foibles here and there. Jacori Hayes and Victor Ulloa put in solid shifts over the full 90. Cristian Colman may be turning a corner.
