Salt Lake got an early first half goal before giving up an own-goal late in the match to gift FC Dallas the point.
The first good chance for FC Dallas came 16 minutes into the match as Mauro Diaz slipped a ball in behind the Salt Lake defense where Maxi Urruti was there to head it on towards goal. Unfortunately Nick Rimando was there to snuff out the chance.
RSL got on the board first in the 25th minute from Joao Plata. Albert Rusnak sent a perfect through ball to Plata on the left flank. Plata then made one smart move around Reggie Cannon before firing a shot at the near post past Jimmy Maurer.
In the 38th Dallas nearly responded with a chance that Rimando cleared off the line from Urruti. Barrios crossed the ball across the goal where Urruti was there at the back post to put in a shot at a tough angle only to have Rimando clear it off the line. Shortly after that, the ball got worked out to Jacori Hayes at the top of the penalty box and the second-year midfielder’s shot on goal hit the crossbar to go out of play.
RSL nearly got a second goal in the 75th minute on a breakaway from Jerfferson Savarino. The RSL attacker weaved his way through the Dallas defense before trying to dribble around Maurer but the Dallas keeper was good to the task and forced him wide of the goal.
The game-tying goal came in the 86th minute on an own goal from RSL defender Marcelo Silva. Urruti drove down into the RSL penalty box past one defender before firing a shot at the near post that forced Silva to attempt a clear ball only into his own net.
FC Dallas will return to action on Sunday, March 18, when they host the Seattle Sounders.
