Hoops Home and Abroad: Weston McKennie shines in return for Schalke

Weston shined this past weekend, Keaton got minutes with Benfica, and Lee Nguyen may finally get his wish.


Europe

Weston McKennie (AP - Schalke 04/Bundesliga): Weston was back in the starting lineup Friday, for Schalke 04 against visiting Mainz 05. Weston looked sharp in his return, he had 6 tackles, 2 interceptions, 5 clearances, and 2 fouls, but wasn’t really involved in the attack. Schalke 04 would go on to win 1-0.

The win keeps Schalke 04, 2nd place in the Bundesliga Table.

Keaton Parks (DFW - Benfica/Primeira Liga): Keaton suited up for the senior team on Saturday, as Benfica hosted Desportivo Aves. Keaton came on in the 83rd minute, and helped Benfica close out a 2-0 victory. Keaton was solid in his short stint, and looked every bit like he belonged.

The victory keeps Benfica 2nd place in the Primeira Liga Table, just 2 points behind Porto.

Ramiro Funes Mori (DFW - Everton/Premier League): Ramiro did not feature for Everton FC this week.

Mexico - Clausura Torneo

Rogelio Funes Mori (DFW - Monterrey/Liga MX): Rogelio started Sunday at Santos Laguna, and got his team off in the right foot:

It would be a short lived lead, as Monterrey would go on to lose 3-2.

The loss drops Monterrey to 8th place in the Liga MX Clausura Table.

Alejandro Zendejas (FCD/AP - Atletico Zacatepec/Ascenso MX): Alex suited up Saturday, against visiting Dorados. Alex came on to start the second half, and helped Zacatepec to a 1-0 victory.

The win moves Zacatepec to 7th place in the Ascenso MX Clausura Table.

Alex suited up Tuesday, in Copa MX action, against visiting Leon. Alex came on to start the second half, and Zacatepec would play Leon to a 1-1 draw. Alex scored on his PK attempt, as Zacatepec would advance with a 7-6 PK win.

Atiba Harris (FCD - Murcielagos FC/Ascenso MX): Atiba started Friday, against visiting Alebrijes De Oaxaca. Atiba would be replaced in 26th minute, although it’s not clear if he suffered an injury. Murcielagos would earn a 1-1 draw, despite finishing the match with only 9 men.

The draw keeps Murcielagos dead last in the Ascenso MX Clausura Table.

Nicholas Hagen (AP - Municipal/Guatemala), Blas Perez (FCD - Municipal/Guatemala): Nick started Sunday, against visiting Deportivo Petapa. Nick got his 6th clean sheet of the Clausura, as Municipal won 4-0.

The win moves Municipal to 3rd place in the Liga Nacional Clausura Table.

Moises Hernandez (FCD/AP - Comunicaciones/Guatemala): Moises started Sunday, at 1st place Antigua GFC. Moises played the full match, and received 1 of the 9 yellows handed out in the rough and tumble affair. Los Cremas would go on to get a 2-1 victory.

The win sees Los Cremas to 6th place in the Liga Nacional Clausura Table.

Anibal Chala (FCD - LDU Quito, Loan/Ecuador): Anibal suited up Saturday, but did not play, in a 1-1 draw against Aucas.

Chris Seitz (FCD - Houston Dynamo): Chris got his second start in as many games for Houston, against visiting Vancouver. Chris had a rough day at the office, as Houston would go on to lose 2-1.

The loss drops Houston to 3rd place in the Western Conference.

Lee Nguyen (DFW - New England): Lee has made it clear he wishes to be traded from New England, and has yet to feature for the Revs, despite being one of their best players. Rumors of possible trades, have finally begun to emerge:

Brek Shea (DFW - Vancouver Whitecaps): Brek suited up for Vancouver Saturday, at the Houston Dynamo. Brek came on in the 36th minute, replacing the injured Marcel de Jong. With the match all tied up at 1-1 to start the second half, Brek would become the hero on the day:

Vancouver would hold on for the 2-1 victory.

The victory sees Vancouver to 2nd place in the Western Conference.
