FC Dallas stumbled in their first competitive game of 2018 on Wednesday night in Panama City, Panama, losing 1-0 to Tauro FC.
Jose Tamburelli tapped in a goal in the second half off a corner kick that Jesse Gonzalez failed to clear out of the Dallas penalty box.
Dallas had numerous chances in the first half of this match. In the 22nd minute, Homegrown defender Reggie Cannon raced down the right flank of the field to find Mauro Diaz and Michael Barrios for some quick passing between the pair. Cannon broke free into the penalty box where he found Maxi Urruti. The Argentine’s shot hit off the post and Barrios’ rebound skipped just wide.
Dallas had one more good chance in the late stages of the first half with newcomer Santiago Mosquera. The Young DP brought down a ball inside the penalty box where he then curled a shot on goal only to see it saved by the Tauro keeper.
Tauro grabbed the lead in the 57th minute on a corner kick from Edwin Aguilar. Gonzalez was able to get a hand on the kick but it fell behind him where Tamburelli was there to tap in the easy goal.
Tauro bunkered in defense for the remaining portion of the game as Oscar Pareja made a couple substitutions. The chances decreased dramatically for FC Dallas in the second half as a result.
The two sides will met again next Wednesday in Frisco as Dallas looks to win the series and move on to the quarterfinals.
