A look back at one of the most polarizing players on the team.

Ah, it’s the man of the weekend. With rumors swirling about Maximilliano Urruti, the Argentinian Archer, you either loved his play and are sad to see that he may be gone, or think he is unfit to wear the colors of the Lone Star State and are dancing with glee. Whichever way you lean, you cannot deny that Maxi has been a prominent point of the FC Dallas attack for the last three years in Frisco. Pareja trusted him with 31 appearances in each of his FC Dallas seasons (MLS play). He was relied upon heavily to produce for the attack when Mauro Diaz (and partner-in-crime) was sold to the Emirates. Let’s take a look at how his 2018 fared.

Stat Breakdown

Urruti had a decent statistical season last year with his hybrid appearances between the #9 and #10 roles finishing with 8 goals and 7 assists in over 2800 minutes of play. Having a hand in 15 goals is nothing to scoff at and, by all accounts Maxi had a pretty good year when being asked to play in a position he had limited experience with in the first place. However, a striker is going to be judged by his goals and Urruti had 2 goals after May 26th, 2018 a 13 game drought. Ouchie, not what you want from your “best striker.”

Game That Best Sums Up Maxi

Urruti’s season in two tweets.

This one was awful. You cannot play the #10 and miss this pass. Especially since they ended up losing this game 1-0 on the road.

On the other hand, Urruti was good for a few rockets from outside the 18. Here is the bullet he scored against Los Angeles and he replicated that a couple of times in other games as well.

2019 Outlook

So, will he stay or will he go? We do not know what will happen in the next couple of days, but it seems like he may be on his way to a French-speaking city very soon. This is a lot of production that will need to be replaced, but it may be time for a change moving forward (see what I did there?). This team may need to go through a couple of rebuilding years, so let us see what we can get for him. If the offer is right, I say it would be alright to sell him. His work rate will be missed as he resembles the energizer bunny, but he was too streaky at times. Let us see how these next couple of days play out.
