Hoops Home and Abroad: Fabian Castillo has big game for Tijuana

Castillo finally began to show the kind of play that many remember him for.

Welcome to another week of Big D Soccer’s coverage of your favorite players with ties to FC Dallas, the FCD Academy, and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Chris Richards continues to impress in Germany, the USMNT call ups all struggled against England, and Castillo was up to his old tricks.

Europe

Weston McKennie (AP - Schalke 04/Bundesliga: Weston started Thursday for the USMNT at Wembley Stadium against England. Weston and his midfield partners struggled badly to contain England from running right through the middle of the US defense. Weston played a better second half, but the US was completely dominated in a 3-0 loss.

Keaton Parks (DFW - Benfica/Primeira Liga): Keaton spent the International break training with the senior team:

Anton Nedyalkov (FCD - Ludogorets/Bulgaria): Anton started Thursday in UEFA Europa League action, in a0-0 draw against visiting AEK Larnaca (Cyprus). Ludogorets is 3rd in Group A, and is eliminated.

Anton started Sunday, in a 1-0 win against visiting Beroe. Ludogorets remains 1st place in the First League table.

Chris Richards (AP/FCD - Bayern Munich/U19 Bundesliga): Chris started Sunday in a 3-2 win at Karlsruher. The win sees Bayern Munich U19 remain second place in the U19 Bundesliga Nord Table.

The following day, Richards received some good news:

Despite rampaging through their group, the USMNT U20s were shaky at center back, and Richards is expected to shore up the backline.

Exciting times for Richards, and he talked about it to Grant Wahl:

Ramiro Funes Mori (DFW - Villarreal/La Liga): Ramiro started in a 2-2 draw at Rallo Vallecano. Villarreal now finds itself in a 4 match unbeaten streak, and is 16th in La Liga Table.

Ramiro was called up to the Argentina National team:

Ramiro has been named as a starter for Argentina, in their Friday night friendly against Mexico.

Emerson Hyndman (DFW - Hibernian/Scottish PL): Emerson did not feature for Hibernian this week.

Middle East - Preseason

Mauro Diaz (FCD - Shabab Al Ahli Dubai/UAE): Mauro started Tuesday, in a 1-0 loss at last place Dibba Al Fujairah. The loss drops Shabab Al Ahli Dubai to 4th place in the Arabian Gulf League Table.

Shabab Al Ahli Dubai finds itself on a seven-match undefeated streak, that includes 6 wins, and sees them climb to 4th place in the Arabian Gulf League Table.

Mexico

Omar Gonzalez (DFW - Atlas FC/Liga MX): Omar started Friday in a 0-0 draw against visiting Pachuca. The draw keeps Atlas 17th in the Liga MX Table.

Alejandro Zendejas (AP/FCD - Guadalajara/Liga MX): Alex is expected to start Friday for Guadalajara, in a scheduled friendly against Pachuca.

Fabian Castillo (FCD - Tijuana Xolos): Fabian started at Forward, Saturday for struggling Tijuana, in the 4-4-2 formation. Tijuana hosted Morelia, and found itself down 2-1 in the 71st minute, when Fabian made the kind of play that once made him an FCD favorite:

It wasn’t enough, as Tijuana would go on to lose 3-2.

The loss drops Tijuana to 15th place in the Liga MX Table.

Central America

Blas Perez (FCD - Arabe Unido/Panama): Blas came off the bench in the 66th minute for Arabe Unido, in a 1-0 win at San Francisco. Arabe Unido finds itself in a four-game winning streak, climbing to 2nd place in the LPF Table.

Major League Soccer

Kellyn Acosta (AP/FCD - Colorado Rapids): Kellyn was on bench for the USMNT against England, and came on in the 69th minute. Kellyn looked good in his short time on the field, but it was too little to late, as the US lost 3-0.
