Add another Homegrown player to the pile. FC Dallas announced on Wednesday morning that they have signed their 20th HGP in defender Kris Reaves.
Some of you may recall Reaves from our FCD on Campus posts from the last couple of seasons. The 22-year old defender began his college career with Wake Forest University before transferring to the University of Portland for the last two years. In two seasons with at Wake, Reaves started all 41 games leading them to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances and earned All-ACC Freshman honors. He started 34 games over the last two years in Portland.
Reaves joined the FC Dallas Academy in 2012 and was a member of the U-18 Academy team with fellow Homegrown Kellyn Acosta. He played with the U-18s and saw time with the FC Dallas Reserve team for two seasons before his college career.
I would expect Reaves to slot in the center of the defense behind Matt Hedges and Maynor Figueroa. I do worry about the amount of minutes he can pick up this season with FCD’s first team given the players in front of him but I do think overall he is an upgrade over former HGP Aaron Guillen.
What do you make of Reaves? Happy to seen another HGP sign?
