Preseason camps typically have their way of seeing some familiar faces come and go as teams work trialist in and out. Today, FC Dallas brought in a new face that has some folks very intrigued.
Kevin Ellis reportedly had a bit of a falling out with his hometown club last season, including taking an indefinite leave of absence. He is still under contract with SKC in 2018 but has not reported to their camp.
Should FCD choose to keep Ellis for the 2018 season, they would have to acquire his contract from Sporting Kansas City. One could speculate how much he would be worth on the trade market but FC Dallas does have some allocation money to throw around if need-be here.
Ellis is primarily a right back that can also be slotted into the middle if need-be. In other words, he is the type of player that Oscar Pareja looks for in the defense, someone who is versatile. He has played in 68 games for SKC over the last five seasons, so he has solid MLS experience under his belt.
Pareja’s comments about Ellis in the team’s report about this news is pretty telling that he could be a possible addition if things work out.
What do you make of Ellis potentially joining FCD this preseason?
