All the facts from a weird night in Frisco.

FC Dallas picked up another draw on Saturday night in 2-2 decision against the New York Red Bulls.

FC Dallas head coach Oscar Pareja

Overall thoughts on the game…

Let's talk about that effort. Let’s talk about that energy. Let’s talk about that pride that the FC Dallas players showed tonight. Let's talk about the will to overcome the circumstances. Let's talk about the character and responsibility of this group of players today despite the circumstances and despite the things we cannot control. [They] kept going. I could have a bunch of things prepared for you guys tonight to show my frustration and disappointment because I have seen it before in the league. But I'm going pass on that. Let's talk about the great things that the people saw tonight.

On being proud of the fight in the team tonight....

I'm honored to coach these guys. What I saw on the field today was remarkable against a very good team. They were committed to all the situations the game brought to them. It was a great performance. Individually, I saw a very high pace today. Collectively, I thought they pushed themselves to the limit and they deserved to win that game more than ever. But we have to wake up with the point again. This has been an extremely frustrating year because we can't get the three points when we need it. We will keep pushing and keep building off this performance. It was brilliant.

On Michael Barrios' night...

Mikey [Barrios] was, from the first minute, getting in-behind with such energy and speed... He put himself in great spots and made himself available all the time to stretch the field and get behind the defenders. The connection that he made with [Maxi] Urruti and Mauro [Diaz] was very good. So the day for Mikey was fantastic.

What was the strategy coming out of halftime?

At that point, when we came in from the break, we felt that the only way to succeed in the game was to fight for the possession. We wanted to slow the game down and find players like Maxi [Urruti] and Mikey [Barrios] that were getting in-behind them and have Javi [Morales] and Mauro [Diaz] in the middle – two people who can receive the ball from Victor [Ulloa] and Hernan [Grana] and Ryan [Hollingshead], who gave us a chance to get some chances to score. We decided to manage the middle and I thought they did very well.

Does this feel like the win side of a draw?

You're right and I can see that in the locker room too. The boys are frustrated but with the circumstances of the game, the feeling tonight is different. We have had a few games here at home, where we come out with a tie... For example, against Colorado, we created a lot of chances and we were not clean. Today, we hit the cross bar at the end and the goalkeeper [Luis Robles] made an incredible save. Things like that make you feel like you deserve the three points again, but the level and the energy and what the boys did today playing a man down… We have five players today with the national teams that are regulars… We got a point today and points are very necessary to keep believing on making the playoffs and getting to MLS Cup.

On Reggie Cannon’s debut....

Reggie has had an excellent couple of weeks. The past three or four weeks, he has been incredible on the field to the point that he has been in the equation to play as a starter. Today, there was no hesitation. We were saving him to give us some energy. Reggie is just another guy in our academy that is ready to go.

On making his MLS debut…

It may have only been a short time… maybe three minutes but I took tried to make the most of it. [Oscar] told me to bring energy and add what I could to the game. I did. I thought I brought energy. I made a tackle. I improved over those three minutes. Game time is game time. I am proud to make my debut for the club. I appreciate all the support.

On nearly finding the back of the net on a goalmouth scrum in stoppage time…

I got a touch on it. The ball was flying around the box. Anyone could have scored. I kicked the ball and the ‘keeper was juggling it in his hands. I wish. I wish that it went in. It was anyone’s ball. I got a touch on it… So close.

On making Oscar Pareja consider Cannon for a starting role with a strong week of training…

It’s a tough one. Sometimes… you just need to be patient. I say that a lot but sometimes you don’t get a chance when you want it. The important thing is to take it when you have it. You have to give it everything you have. For me, it was three minutes, three months after my [Lamar Hunt U.S.] Open Cup match. I just have to take it. I am happy to help the club.

On looking at the positives of tonight's match...

Yes, honestly yes. We’re not in a good place. We’re not finding wins but we have to find the positives. The team played well in those 90 minutes. It was important that the team showed character and the effort, which shows that we’re all going after the same goal, MLS Cup.

On the teams' resilience...

We’re not getting wins and it hurts a bit because we’re a team that is used to winning. We have to be strong. It doesn’t show in the points, but today, we demonstrated we are willing to fight. This team has shown incredible effort game after game. Today, we played with ten players for most of the match. It was very important for the team to show their effort tonight and demonstrate that we are all together and on the same side. We hope that we can bring a win to our fans and to us as well.

On the team adjusting throughout the game…

The formation had to change a bit after the goal because even though there were only five minutes left, it was very empty. We needed to stop them from scoring so after time everyone was on the same page and that showed because the team tried their best in every position. Michael Barrios had to play forward at some point. He played very well. I’m very proud of this team. We’re going to move ahead and try to win the MLS Cup.

On Mauro Diaz’s being greeted by a fan after the penalty…

I saw her [the fan] coming. I told Mauro Diaz to sign it. It surprised me because it’s not a usual thing, but more than anything I’m happy for him because he scored. And when I knew it was a penalty, I knew he would be able to convert it. It was a boost of confidence that he needed. He’s an important player on this team.
