The loss extends the winless run for FC Dallas to eight games with just seven matches left on the season.
Atlanta came out with a high-pressure early on in the match that nearly led to a penalty kick six minutes in. Josef Martinez got in behind the Dallas defense and made a move around Jesse Gonzalez to force a foul in the box. Thankfully for Dallas fans Martinez was called offside after a video review examined the play.
Atlanta didn’t waste too much time to get on the board as they found a breakthrough in the 14th minute on a corner kick from Miguel Almiron that was headed across the goal from Hector Villalba to Leandro Gonzalez Pirez who poked it home for the game’s first goal.
Atlanta nearly doubled their lead in the 26th minute on a counter attack from Martinez and Almiron. The two Atlanta Designated Players found themselves behind the Dallas defense onside as Martinez had a wide open shot past Gonzalez that Matt Hedges came in to clear off the line.
Dallas came close to tying things up in the 43rd minute as Mauro Diaz slipped a ball in behind the Atlanta defense to Maxi Urruti who hit a one time shot that Michael Parkhurst stopped and forced out for a corner kick.
Shortly after the break Atlanta doubled their lead with a quick strike from Martinez. Atlanta picked off a bad pass from Walker Zimmerman in the midfield where Almiron found Martinez on the back post where he slotted home the second goal.
Atlanta picked up a third goal as Villalba sent a ball into the box in the 68th minute that Martinez dummied at the near post and Greg Garza was there to finish it home.
