Hoops Home & Abroad: Alex Zendejas continues his rise in Mexico

Alex has seen steady growth in Mexico, and took another step forward this week

Welcome to another week of Big D Soccer’s coverage of your favorite players with ties to FC Dallas, the FCD Academy, and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

It was a rather quiet week for many players, but even then, a couple of players received National team call ups, Moises Hernandez saw a positional move, and Super Raton continues to score goals in Guatemala.


Europe

Weston Mckennie (AP - Schalke 04/Bundesliga): Weston suited up Sunday, but did not play in a 1-0 road defeat to Hannover 96.

Keaton Parks (DFW - Benfica II/Segunda Liga): Keaton started Saturday at first place Academico Viseu. Keaton played 77 minutes in a 1-0 losing effort.

The loss drops Benfica II to 12th in the Segunda Liga Table.

David Texeira (FCD - Vitoria Guimaraes/Primeira Liga): David suited up, but did not play in Saturday’s 0-0 road draw at Pacos de Ferreira

Emerson Hyndman (DFW - AFC Bournemouth/EPL): Emerson did not suit up Saturday, as AFC Bournemouth lost 2-1 at home against Manchester City

Mexico - Apertura Torneo

Rogelio Funes Mori (DFW - Monterrey/Liga MX): Rogelio started Saturday at Cruz Azul, but did was not involved in the lone Monterrey score. Monterrey got a 1-1 draw, and increased their lead at the top of the table to 4 points.

Alejandro Zendejas (FCD/AP - Atletico Zacatepec/Ascenso MX): Alex started on Saturday, and played the full match. Zacatepec had to settle for a 2-2 draw at home against Venados.

The draw sees Atletico Zacatepec to 7th place in the Ascenso MX table.

At the beginning of the week, Alex received some exciting news:

Zendejas received his first call-up to the Mexican Sub-21 National Team.

Omar Gonzalez (DFW - Pachuca/Liga MX): Omar got the his first start since returning from injury. He played the full match at Tijuana, but a 13th minute red card to fellow defender Victor Guzman, doomed Pachuca to a 2-1 loss.

The loss drops Pachuca to 10th place in the Liga MX Table.

Omar received a call up to the USMNT.

Central America & South America

Blas Perez (FCD) & Nicholas Hagen (AP - Municipal/Guatemal): Nicholas Hagen started in goal, and Blas started up top for Municipal’s visit to Deportivo Petapa. Blas would score his third goal of the season, and Municipal finished in a 1-1 draw.

The draw sees Municipal 6th place in the Liga Nacional Table.

Moises Hernandez (FCD/AP - Comunicaciones/Guatemala): Moises got the start on Saturday at home vs. Suchitepequez. It is interesting to point out that Moises started at Left Center Back, as opposed to his normal Left Back position. Moises and the defense were up to the task, as they shut out Suchitepequez in a 2-0 victory.

The win sees Los Cremas jump up to 2nd Place in the Liga Nacional Table.

Anibal Chala (FCD - LDU Quito, Loan/Ecuador): Chala started Friday against visiting Barcelona. Chala played the full match as Quito got a 1-1 draw.

The draw keeps LDU Quito in 7th place.

Major League Soccer -

Lee Nguyen (DFW - New England Revolution): Lee did not suit up Saturday, as New England lost 1-0 at DC United.

Greg Garza (DFW - Atlanta United FC): Greg started Saturday at the Philadelphia Union. With Atlanta off to a rocky start and down 2-0, Greg got a cross into the box that would result in the first goal for AUFC. Greg would become very active on the attack, with 37 passes completed in the oppositions half, and he added 3 interceptions on defense. Atlanta would rally for a 2-2 draw.

The draw keeps Atlanta United 6th place in the Eastern Conference.

Jared Jeffrey (DFW - D.C. United): Jared suited up, but did not play in DC United’s 1-0 home win against the Revolution.

Dillon Powers (DFW - Orlando City SC): Dillon suited up Saturday against the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps. Dillon would make his Orlando City SC debut in the 57th minute, with Orlando trailing 2-0 and looking to rally. Sadly, the rally would fall short, and Orlando City would go on to lose 2-1.

The loss sees Orlando City SC drop to 9th place in the Eastern Conference.

Adonijah Reid (FCD - Ottawa Fury FC):

Adonijah suited up, but did not play on Sunday. Ottawa got a 2-2 draw against visiting NY Red Bull II.

Corben Bone (DFW - FC Cincinnati): No game scheduled last week

Stephen McCarthy (DFW - San Antonio FC): No game scheduled last week

Devin Vega (AP - San Antonio FC): No game scheduled last week

Connor Presley (AP - San Antonio FC): No game scheduled last week

Eric Avila (FCD - Phoenix Rising): Eric suited up, but did not play Saturday. Phoenix won 3-1 over visiting Sacramento Republic.

With the win, Phoenix moves to 9th place in the Western Conference.

Conor Doyle (DFW - Puerto Rico FC): Conor started Saturday against visiting Miami FC. Conor and the PRFC had plenty of opportunities, but failed to score in a 2-0 loss, their first of the Fall Tournament.

The loss drop PRFC to 2nd place in the NASL Fall Table.
