Power Rankings: FC Dallas continues freefall

Rough week sees team continue to freefall down the rankings.

MLS: Houston Dynamo at FC Dallas Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to another week of the MLS Power Rankings. It was a rough week for FCD, who blew a 3-1 home lead against Houston, settling for a 3-3 draw, then went to Columbus and lost 2-1. That’s a 6 game winless streak, and for some of us, the month of August just can’t come to an end quick enough.

MLS - Ranking 12 (Last Week 10)

Comments: If you’re a Dallas fan who’s not nervously tugging at their collar right now, we applaud your optimism. This team has the talent to contend, but do they have the mental resilience?

ESPNFC - Ranking 15 (Last Week 11)

Comments: No playoffs for FC Dallas if the season ended Monday. Now winless in six after a 3-3 draw to Houston and 2-1 loss at Columbus.

Soccer America - Ranking 14 (Last Week 13)

Comments: A header by Walker Zimmerman cut the deficit in Columbus to no avail; Houston scored twice within 15 minutes to wipe out a 3-1 lead established with goals by Tesho Akindele, Maynor Figueroa, and Max Urruti. FCD hasn’t won in its last six games, and caused a lot of its own problems against Houston with defensive miscues by Matt Hedges, among others.

Planet Futbol - Ranking 15 (Last Week 13)

Comments: It is truly alarming to see how far Dallas has fallen in the last several weeks. At one point, it was challenging Toronto for the Supporters’ Shield. Now, it’s out of playoff position. This week Dallas gave up a 3–1 home lead in a 3–3 draw against Houston, then traveled to Columbus and lost. Dallas hasn’t won since July 22.

The Score - Ranking 8 (Last Week 6)

Comments: FC Dallas has slipped out of the Western Conference playoff spots amid a poor run of form, and if it continues the club will drop out of our top 10, too.

One Football - Ranking 7 (Last Week 6)

Comments: What has happened to FC Dallas? The 2-1 defeat to Columbus means they’re now winless in six and — would you believe it — currently out of the play-off places in the Western Conference.
