FC Dallas went down 2-0 on second half goals by Columbus’ Ola Kamara and Jonathan Mensah, battled back with a late goal by Walker Zimmerman on a corner kick in the loss.
Columbus came out with a lot of possession as FC Dallas sat back and allowed the home side to control the early portion of the match. Dallas used this as a way to try to pin the Crew on a counter attack. In the 18th minute they were able to catch the Crew on the counter with a good run by Michael Barrios. The speedy winger’s attempt on goal would get pushed wide by Zach Steffen.
Dallas began seeing more of the ball after that and in the 24th minute they had their best chance of the first half from Roland Lamah. The Belgian got the ball after a nice give and go on the wing between Maxi Urruti and Hernan Grana. Lamah got the ball near the top of the box and fired a hard shot low to the far post that went wide.
Shortly after halftime the Crew took the lead in the match on a quick strike from Kamara. Federico Higuain set up the play in the 50th minute as he slipped a ball through the Dallas defense to Hector Jimenez, who then quickly played it back across the goal where Kamara finished it off.
In the 71st minute the Crew doubled their lead on a goal from Mensah. The Crew defender charge in late on a free kick from Higuain to head home the insurance goal that the Crew needed.
Dallas did pull one back from Zimmerman on a corner kick. Javier Morales curled in a great ball into the middle of the box where Zimmerman was able to get a head on it for the team’s only goal of the match.
FC Dallas will return to action next week as they host the New York Red Bulls.
