Hoops Home & Abroad: Blas Perez is on fire

Super Raton has made an immediate impact for Municipal

Welcome to another week of Big D Soccer’s coverage of your favorite players with ties to FC Dallas, the FCD Academy, and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Blas is tearing it up in Guatemala, Keaton Parks finally plays in a meaningful match, and Rogelio continues to go scoreless.

Europe - Preseason

Weston Mckennie (AP - Schalke 04/Bundesliga): Weston suited suited up on Saturday, as Schalke 04 travelled to English Premier League side Crystal Palace for their final preseason friendly. Weston came on to play the second half, as he continues to impress with the senior team, and Schalke 04 got a 1-1 draw.

The praise for McKennie is growing, and gaining steam, with some of his biggest fans beginning to claim that McKennie is on par or has a better upside than Christian Pulisic. The Pulisic talk may sound like complete fantasy to those who have seen the USMNT sensation play, but haven’t seen McKennie in action. You may be in for a complete surprise, as to just how fast McKennie has risen, and just how good his all around skill is. Never fear, a devoted fan has posted this amazing 10 minute plus highlight video of McKennie in action with the Schalke 04 U19s (wearing #6) and the Schalke 04 senior team (wearing #2), and it is a must watch:

Keaton Parks (DFW - Benfica B/Segunda Liga): Keaton suited up Tuesday night at UD Oliveirense, and made his Benfica II debut as a second half substitute. Benfica II would go on to lose in heartbreaking fashion, as their opponents scored at the death (93rd minute) to deny Benfica II a road point in a 2-1 loss.

David Texeira (FCD - Vitoria Guimaraes/Primeira Liga): Did not suit up Saturday, as Vitoria Guimaraes lost 3-1 at Benfica in the Super Cup.

Mexico - Apertura Torneo

Rogelio Funes Mori (DFW - Monterrey/Liga MX): Rogelio started Friday at Tijuana and went the full 90 in a resounding 3-0 victory for Monterrey. Rogelio has now gone 9 straight matches without a goals, a fact that has many of the Rayados faithfull unhappy with him.

With the win, Monterrey is currently in a 4 team logjam at the top of the Apertura Table.

Alejandro Zendejas (FCD/AP - Atletico Zacatepec/Ascenso MX): Alejandro suited up on Friday night at Cimarrones de Sonora. Zendejas came on in the 73rd minute, and helped Zacatepec get a road point, following a 0-0 draw.

Alejandro started Tuesday night, and played the full 90 against visiting Tigres UANL of Liga MX in Copa MX action. Zacatepec jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, and held on to win 2-1.

Central America & South America

Blas Perez (FCD - Municipal/Guatemala): Blas started on Sunday at Deportivo Sanarate, and with his club trailing 1-0 in the second half, Super Raton leveled the game:

Municipal was close to getting a road point when Sanarate broke the tie in the 90th minute, as Municipal lost 2-1.

Blas started yesterday at home against Coban Imperial, and did what he does best:

That would be the winning goal, as Municipal would win 1-0

Blas has been in excellent form to start the season, but his team has not, as they currently sit 10th place after only 3 games.

Nicholas Hagen (AP - Municipal/Guatemala): Nicholas Hagen continues to be the first choice keeper for Municipal, starting Sunday at Deportivo Sanarate, in a 2-1 loss.

Nicholas started yesterday, and got his first clean sheet of the season, in a 1-0 home win over Coban Imperial.

Anibal Chala (FCD - LDU Quito, Loan/Ecuador): Anibal started Sunday as Quito hosted Guayaquil City. Anibal played the full 90, his 3rd full match in 8 days! The game was not televised, but fans have voiced their satisfaction at Chala’s level of play.

The draw sees LDU Quito to 7th place, just 4 games into the season.

Major League Soccer -

Lee Nguyen (DFW - New England Revolution): Lee started Saturday at the Chicago Fire, and with the Revolution trailing early, Lee’s set piece capabilities helped New England level the game:

The Kamara goal leveled the game, but it was not enough, as Chicago would pull away for a 4-1 victory.

Greg Garza (DFW - Atlanta United FC): Did not suit up this past Saturday due to injury suffered in the Gold Cup.

Mikey Ambrose (DFW - Atlanta United FC): With Greg Garza injured, Ambrose got the start Saturday at Sporting Kansas City. Mikey played the full 90, as AUFC got a 1-1 draw.

Jared Jeffrey (DFW - D.C. United): Jared started Saturday, as DC United josted league leaders Toronto FC. Jarred played the full

Dillon Powers (DFW - Colorado Rapids): Dillon did not suit Saturday as Colorado got a 2-2 draw against visiting Vancouver.

Dillon was not on the roster, for a very good reason:

USL & NASL (All USL Games are available for replay on USL YouTube)

Adonijah Reid (FCD - Ottawa Fury FC):

Reid suited up Saturday as Ottowa hosted Bethlehem Steele. With Ottowa failing to generate any offense and trailing 1-0, Reid came on in the 71st minute. The impact on the match immediate, as Ottowa's attack came to life. While Reid did not score, he was apart of a relentless attack that forced an own goal. It was not enough, as Ottowa lost 2-1.

Corben Bone (DFW - FC Cincinnati):

Devin Vega (AP - San Antonio FC): Vega did not suit up Saturday.

Stephen McCarthy (DFW - San Antonio FC):

Stephen started Saturday, as San Antonio FC had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home against Orange County.

Eric Avila (FCD - Phoenix Rising): Eric suited up, but did not play on Saturday as Phoenix won 2-0 at the LA Galaxy II.

HH&A’s Where are they now?: Norberto Paparatto

The Argentine defender played for FC Dallas in 2016, but never managed to get on the field. He's returned home to Buenos Aires, where he will play for 2nd Division team Almagro.
