That stunk. Vote for your top player from Vancouver’s blowout victory over FC Dallas.

Well - here’s good news. Cristian Colman won the vote for Workhorse of the Week for his hard effort in the away win at Montreal, a win that looks even more vital considering what happened last weekend. Good for him.

But, yeah, about Saturday night.

THAT STUNK.

FC Dallas has its annual “who-the-hell-knows-what-that-was-about” games, and maybe this is one. Maybe it’s more. Kellyn Acosta did not start, getting a little rest after a slog of a Gold Cup campaign. Maybe it was bad tactics. Maybe it was missing Maynor Figueroa and Hernan Grana. Maybe it was just a series of unfortunate events.

Whatever it was, Vancouver came into Frisco and thrashed FC Dallas 4-0.

Oh to be a fly on the wall in the locker room - Oscar Pareja no doubt had some choice words for the team. But the best you can do is put this one behind the squad and move forward. The players are professionals - it’s not like they forgot how to play soccer (although it may have looked a little like that), it’s not like they have never experienced a tough match before. They will bounce back.

I don’t think there was much of any decent performance from this match. FC Dallas generated a few opportunities by getting forward. I liked what Ryan Hollingshead was doing in the final third, and Michael Barrios had a chance or two. Unfortunately, if you don’t put those opportunities away, you pay a price usually. Just a tough night defensively and offensively for this team.

I know there was immediate debate on Carlos Gruezo’s deserved red card, but I do wonder how Pareja will handle that. It was really unacceptable in a situation where the squad was struggling and already down - why would a supposed leader for the team put his squad in that position? Carlos will come back from this too, but I’m curious what he said to his fellow teammates after they saw the replay. Just unacceptable.

Anyway, do you want to vote? Vote if you want. Go ahead. I’ll be outside pretending that game never happened and I didn’t waste a morning watching it.
