No muss, no fuss, just FMLS

MLS: Sporting KC at Los Angeles Galaxy Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Another rant free write up is in the offing this week- too many butts to kick and not enough legs. Philly and Columbus have DGWs this round, but Columbus plays twice on the road, and Philly played twice last round. A good rule of thumb here is to pick players from either team who you think will put up a good number today and expect nothing this weekend.

Fool’s Gold: (Round 20. 3-1 (3.88 avg), Season 5-3 (4.33 avg))

  1. Justin Meram M $10.1
  2. Nemanja Nikolic F $10.7
  3. Christian Roldan- M $7.7
  4. Joevin Jones- D $5.6

Outside of Alessandrini, the fades worked like a charm last round. Since I actually had usable players in their place, the comeback is underway. At least until I totally blow it this round. Again, the threshold for chalking up a win for the fades is 4 or less per game. If you’re interested in learning more about the fade strategy, go here.

There will probably be one or two Columbus players this round that are worth the add, but I’m not throwing darts to pick one. I’m definitely not adding Meram (watch this effectively end my season). Last time Nikolic found his name here, I swore I’d never fade him if he scored. He didn’t, and Kansas City at home is tough to score on. I’ll take my chances.

I’m seeing a lot of people chase Kjlestan’s points from last round, and a home game against Montreal is probably fine for that. What isn’t fine is people chasing the Seattle points. Seattle narrowly beat the worst non-expansion team in the league (DC United) at home and then did nothing for a half against San Jose until they ran out of gas. Honestly, I think LA is going to crush them like a grape this round. That should tip off my first baller this round...

Again- this is the avoid pile at your own peril. These are all popular players I’m fading in order to catch up. This end’s this week’s disclaimer.

Byrd’s Ballers: (Round 20. 3-1-1, Season 56-27-16)

  1. Romain Alessandrini M $10.4
  2. Sebastian Giovinco F $12.9
  3. Lee Nguyen M $10.6
  4. Miguel Almiron M $10.0
  5. Albert Rusnak - M $9.6

Hey, hey- FC Byrd Turgler finally came away with honors. Woo hoo. That got me a whopping 7 points closer to Phil who keeps cruising along and is now 6th place overall and a good week away from the top spot. Damn!

Like I said earlier, I think LA’s going to clobber Seattle this weekend in a game they have to have. They’re starting to get healthy and Jonathan Dos Santos should really help their midfield out (although probably not this weekend). Everyone’s dumping Giovinco this round; I’m running to him- TFC will be back at full strength this weekend.

I’m also running to Nguyen and Rusnak who draw the DGW teams (PHI and CMB, respectively) at home this round, so they should be highly profitable. Finally, Almiron’s averaging 9/gm at home this year. Orlando’s slated to have a really tough time in Georgia this weekend.

Skinflint’s Specials: (Round 20 3-2-0, Season 49-51-0)

  1. Jack Elliot D $4.4
  2. Anton Walkes D $4.3
  3. Nick Lima D $4.0
  4. Erik Palmer-Brown D $4.5
  5. Reggie Cannon D $4.0

If I’m taking DGW players this round, Medunjanin and Elliot look like decent bets with the latter being dirt cheap. Walkes is averaging almost 8/gm over his last 4, and I think EPB finally gets a clean sheet to add to the bonus points he’s been accruing. Lima’s been having a rough go of it lately, but that just means he cheaper. In San Jose’s new setup, he’s often pushed up into the attack and is a candidate for some bonus points and a clean sheet against goal shy Crapids. Finally, our man Reggie Cannon looks like he might be ready for his MLS debut. Both Grana and Fig our suspended this round, so he looks like he has a shot. You can’t beat the price or the matchup. Best of luck this round to all five of you still checking us out every week.
