It has been a rough stretch the Oklahoma City Energy FC. In their last five matches, they have been unable to pick up a win, only accumulating three losses and two draws. This slip in form has led to the Energy dropping to as low as twelfth in the USL Western Conference, a spot that puts them three points away below the playoff line.
Although they are one win away from going above the line, the Energy has four other teams in the way, Orange County SC, Rio Grande Valley FC, Phoenix Rising FC, and the Tulsa Roughnecks. All four of these teams are enjoying current success while the Energy remains flat.
This upcoming Saturday, the Energy will be playing their rivals Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, who have hit a bit of a rut as of late. In their recent three matches, Colorado has lost two matches and drawn one. The Energy will want to add injury to insult for the sixth placed team in the Western Conference.
Energy FC fans should keep their eyes on Miguel Gonzalez. The current OKC striker recently played the Switchbacks during the 2015 and 2016 season, where he played 52 matches and scored 17 goals. After linking up with his brother in OKC, Miguel will surely have a passionate effort during Saturday night’s match.
With both clubs struggling to grab a win, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if they don’t find one here. I would predict a draw with a few goals. The rivalry should be intense and interesting to watch.
