Dallas got goals from Mauro Diaz, Javier Morales and Ryan Hollingshead in the win.
Neither team was able to get anything going in the first 20 minutes of the match. FC Dallas broke that up on a set piece from Diaz in the 24th minute. Diaz sent in a ball from the right side that was just too high.
Diaz was able to get FC Dallas on the board right before the half on a penalty kick goal. FCD was able to string together a series of passes that lead to the penalty as five players passed the ball through the Rapids’ midfield before Diaz was pulled down in the box. The Argentine then stepped up to the spot and hammered it home past Zac MacMath.
Colorado responded quickly to start the second half as Michael Azira tied things up for the Rapids in the 46th minute. Azira ripped a shot from distance that deflected off Maynor Figueroa and into the back of the net.
Dallas found themselves back in the lead in the 57th minute on a goal from Hollingshead. Diaz got the ball on the right wings and played it through to Reggie Cannon. The Dallas Homegrown was able to pick out Hollingshead to put home the game’s third goal.
Colorado ended up playing the final ten minutes with ten men as Shkelzen Gashi. They then were down to nine men after Kortne Ford was issued a second yellow card in the 88th minute.
FC Dallas iced the game in the 89th minute as Morales scored his second goal with the club on free kick.
FC Dallas returns to action this Saturday when they host Toronto FC.
