A major test approaches for the Oklahoma City Energy FC as they travel to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado to take on the MLS side Colorado Rapids in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Having previously defeated Moreno Valley and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in previous tournament matches, the Energy have found themselves in the later stage of the tournament against a harder opposition.
The OKC Energy will head into the match coming off of a 0-0 draw against the undefeated San Antonio FC. This draw sees the Energy extend their undefeated streak at Taft Stadium to five.
The Rapids will enter the match after enduring a rough 2017 season. The Western Conference club currently stands eleventh in the conference table and last in the whole league with only thirteen points in thirteen games.
Although the Energy will be up against a tough MLS side, they are lucky that it is against the worst team in the league. A win here will see the Energy move further into the tournament and potentially earn a reunion match with their affiliates FC Dallas.
The Energy will enter the match as underdogs and will give it everything they got. Fans should expect an exciting match and few goals from the new signing Andy Craven. Maybe fans will even see the appearance of newly signed midfielder Chad Bond.
Note: Regular starting goalkeeper Cody Laurendi will not be at the match due to international duty with Puerto Rico. Expect CJ Cochran to fill in the gap.
Projected starting XI:
Energy FC: Cochran; R. Dixon, Daly, Hyland, Wallace; Guzman, Rasmussen, Luis Martinez, Barril; M. Gonzalez, Craven

Location: Dick’s Sporting Goods Park; Commerce City, Colorado
Time & Date: 7:00 PM CT on June 13
