The next two games for the Oklahoma City Energy FC will be their most difficult of the young season. The first match, taking place on Saturday night, will be against the undefeated Western Conference club San Antonio FC. Only a short three days later, the Energy will travel to Colorado to play the MLS side Colorado Rapids.
The first of their two upcoming matches will take place at home at Taft Stadium, where the Energy have won four straight. The last of which came in a thrilling 3-2 win against Phoenix Rising FC. Defender Kyle Hyland notched his second goal of the season while Wojciech Wojcik collected a brace. However, following the match, the Energy announced that the Polish striker will undergo surgery after sustaining a fracture to his left elbow during the win. The club stated the Wojcik’s timetable for return is currently unknown. Energy fans should expect to see newly signed forward Andy Craven replace the injured striker in Saturday’s contest.
Following their recent win, the Energy found themselves move up the table from 13 to 11, tying them with Swope Park Rangers with 13 points, but due to their one game advantage, OKC loses the tie breaker.
Opposing the Energy is San Antonio FC, who currently sit second in the Western Conference, tied with first placed Real Monarchs SLC on points, but like the Energy, SAFC loses the tiebreaker due to more games played.
There is no doubt that San Antonio is on fire. They simply do not know how to lose. Although the Energy are on a four-game win streak at home, it is hard to believe that they will grind out a win. That being said, the USL is a league for unpredictability, so it isn’t unthinkable to say the Energy could pull this one off. However, I don’t see it. The Energy will lose Saturday night.
