The past two weeks for the Oklahoma City Energy FC have been enjoyable, to say the least. Winning their last three matches, OKC will now head to Weidner Field on Wednesday night to take on USL Western Conference side Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in the third round of the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. A win would see the Energy take on the Colorado Rapids in the next round. A loss would see Jimmy Nielsen’s squad pack their bags and return to Oklahoma City with an early tournament exit.

The OKC Energy made their way into the third round after defeating California USPL side Moreno Valley FC 5-1. The Switchbacks earned a spot to the next round after defeating FC Tucson 2-0 at Weidner Field.

In the Energy’s previous match, they defeated Portland Timbers FC 2 in a 2-1 victory that saw Daniel Gonzalez and Mickey Daly grab a goal. With that win, OKC rose a spot in the Western Conference, overlapping LA Galaxy II. Now with ten league points, the Energy only sit four points away from fourth-placed club Sacramento Republic FC.

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC is a different story. Having yet to win a game since early May, the Colorado Rapids’ USL affiliate side has lost two and drawn two in their last four games. Their recent form has seen them drop down to sixth in the Western Conference.

Projected starting XI:

Energy FC: Laurendi; R. Dixon, Daly, Hyland, Wallace; Guzman, A. Dixon, Luis Martinez, M. Gonzalez; Barril, Wojcik

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC: Pouaty; Burpt, McFarlane, Phillips, Suggs; Kim, Argueta, Prugh; Malcolm, Frater, Kacher

Location: Weidner Field; Colorado Springs, Colorado

Time & Date: 7:00 PM CT on Wednesday, May 31

Prediction: OKC win 2-1 (M. Gonzalez 1x, D. Gonzalez 1x, Malcolm 1x)
