They’re back on track. After winning in their two previous matches, the Oklahoma City Energy FC have finally hit the ground running after a shaky start to the 2017 USL Season.
FC Dallas’ affiliate began their season with a sloppy 1-4-1 record. This sluggish beginning led to the Energy sitting towards the bottom of the Western Conference. OKC currently hold on to the fourteenth spot in their conference, only one spot above weekend opponents and last placed Portland Timbers 2.
Oklahoma City’s previous match was against Orange County SC in which Jimmy Nielsen came out on top at the final whistle. Offseason signing Alex Dixon scored the matches only goal in the 35th minute off of a proper pass created by Miguel Gonzalez. Orange County’s chances quickly diminished after the 65th-minute red card was issued towards the defender and former LA Galaxy product Oscar Sorto. Following the dismissal, OKC took control of the match and eased to a 1-0 victory, their first league win since April 11th.
The OKC Energy will play against the Portland Timbers 2 this Wednesday night. The Timbers’ USL side has not fared well this season, currently sitting dead last in the Western Conference – that is not to say they are bad in the slightest. PT2 hold a strong squad full of season veterans and rookies. MLS veteran Amobi Okugo and Leicester City product Jack Barmby are a part of the squad and have proven to provide quality at the top level.
Even with some MLS flair, the Portland Timbers 2 do not have much going for them. The Energy should take the win at home this week and grow their win streak to three.
