FC Dallas is hosting the Generation adidas Cup 2017 Tournament this weekend, which features some of the best MLS academies, and some of the top International Teams.
FC Dallas U16s played against Ecuador National champions Independiente Del Valle U16. The opponents were loaded with talent, as they featured five players who are Ecuador U17 National Team members, with three of them starters.
The teams played two 35 minute halves. Both teams appeared pretty evenly matched, as neither team could get anything generated in the 1st half, and both teams had to settle for a 0-0 halftime score.
The second half was a completely different story, as the star players for Independiente, showed their quality. Independiente Del Valle took the lead in the 49th minute, with a beautiful display of quality passing in the attacking third. Ecuador National team member Denilson Ovando (CF #19) received the ball in heavy traffic, and dribbled into the attacking third. Ovando was able to place a perfectly weighted through pass to Pedro Vite’ (CM #9) who dashed through the near corner of the box and placed a long rolling pass behind the defenders to the far corner of the box and found a streaking Jordan Rezavala (CAM #10). The Ecuador National Team Captain, drilled a powerful shot to the top far right corner of the goal, that had too much pace to be denied.
After going down 0-1, the FC Dallas U16 poured on the attack, looking to get the equalizer. The FCD U16 were able to generate shot after shot, but Ecuador National Team starting keeper Moises Ramirez was up to the task. Ramirez was simply pure class, and snatched any shot that came in his direction. The best chance for the FCD U16s to equalize, came in the 58th minute, when Adrian Morales (CF #77) corralled a long pass and split two defenders to get into the box, one-on-one against Ramirez, but his shot was deflected by Ramirez, who then gathered the rebound himself.
FC Dallas would go on to lose 0-1 to Independiente Del Valle. The game is available on the Generation adidas Cup 2017 YouTube channel.
It was a rough day for MLS academies as a whole, as they lost all nine matches against international teams. The results can be found on the MLS - Generation Adidas Cup 2017 page.
