Energy FC vs. Rio Grande Valley: USL Preview and how to watch online

It’s home opener time!

After spending their first two matches of the 2017 USL season away from home, the Oklahoma City Energy FC will finally return to Taft Stadium to play against Rio Grande Valley Toros FC and former FC Dallas Homegrown product Ruben Luna this upcoming weekend.

The Energy have started off their season a bit slow, losing and drawing their first two games. After suffering a loss at the hands of the Swope Park Rangers in week 1, Head Coach Jimmy Nielsen and company traveled to the home of the Colorado Springs Switchbacks in week 2 to partake in a snowy 1-1 draw that saw new Energy FC signing Alex Dixon scored.

Now that their away streak is over, the Energy will be returning to their fortress in Oklahoma City, Taft Stadium, to take on weekend opponents Rio Grande Valley Toros FC. Much like the Energy, Rio Grande has suffered from a disappointing start to the season. The Houston Dynamo affiliate lost both of their matches, 1-0, without scoring a goal. Former FC Dallas Homegrown product Ruben Luna has struggled to put the ball into the back of the net. Last season, the veteran striker played in 13 matches for the Toros, scoring eight goals. Energy FC fans should keep their eye on Luna as he is due a goal.

Both the OKC Energy and the Rio Grande Toros previously met against one another in the USL playoffs which resulted in a 3-2 victory for the Energy. Two of OKC’s goals came from former FC Dallas striker Colin Bonner, who has since retired from professional soccer.

Overall, this should be an epic match to view. With the Energy set to kick off their home opener, there is no doubt that Jimmy Nielsen and company will put 100% effort into the match and, hopefully, grab all three points.

Projected starting XI:

Energy FC: Laurendi; R. Dixon, Daly, Andrews, Wallace; A. Dixon, Rasmussen, Covarrubias, Hyland, M. Gonzalez; Konig
